Chimes Cheers! recognizes our employees who live the five core values of Chimes as witnessed and submitted by their fellow colleagues.
Within each edition, you’ll discover new additions to our team, team member milestones, and be inspired by the remarkable success stories within Chimes.
Through this initiative, we aim to embody our mission, vision, and values, fostering a culture of celebration and gratitude. Together, let us honor our colleagues whose dedication empowers lives and enables the future of individuals with differing abilities.

I just want to acknowledge all the hard work by the staff at Newlin House. they just went through a stomach virus in the house, quiet unpleasant, in addition to all the hard work that they all do every day. – Lisa Wood
I love to give a personal Cheer to Ms. Nelson; she ensures that the Arlen residents get out into the community. She also incorporates life goals while in the community so that they can one day support themselves. She has taken the time to alternate between days with the residents to gain knowledge of their likes and dislikes so she can better support them. I would like to offer my cheer to Rebecca Mitchell. Rebecca has had a few bumps in the road lately. Her 1.1 with whom she has worked with for many years, passed away suddenly in December. And just this week Rebecca lost her son to a terrible illness. She worked everyday through it all as much as possible. Rebecca we love you and please keep in mind that you are not alone. Ms. Patricia Redmond helps out from anywhere any time. She comes to work with smile in her face. she keeps good energy all day long, she always bring somethings for staff and Clients. She keeps LCW in good spirit everyday, she takes pictures on the Hallway wall use her owner money and keep us happy. She gives us inspirations to do more her Clients. Rachel McCullough handles a heavy load with reporting and proposals but always maintains a positive attitude and is just delightful to work with. She never misses a deadline and is constantly looking for ways to help our team improve, stay organized and efficient. She’s my go to for IT tips and tricks and if I’m ever having a tough day a quick phone call with her always turns it around. – Susie Thomaidis
Jessica Smith has been a great additional to the Chimes DE team. She is not afraid to jump in and help when needed and the individuals absolutely love her! – Justine Duffy
My cheer is for Sarah Booen, she is always so helpful and considerate. In my experience When staff has questions or concerns Sarah has always tried to provide the best advice and answers possible while always making you feel valued and heard. Sarah in my opinion has helped create an effective environment of support and understandings, and she is a true blessing at chimes. – Mechele Tulsian
A huge Thank you to Carol Wright who provides supports to everyone who walks through the doors here in Newark. She assists in all areas, supports the front desk, helps with recruiting, gathers all nursing supplies for residential and day hab services and positively engages with all of our individuals. Her positive spirit, cooperative efforts, and contributions to our program are remarkable and we couldn’t do it without her! – Amy Gruszka

Leandra Yost is always the most helpful person in the room and prioritizes everybody’s comfort in their performance and work. She has taken on more responsibilities than she expected she would a year ago, and has done so with great skill. – Justin Waskall

I want to acknowledge the superior care and support this staff did in assisting one of our individuals to their appointment. This individual is a one on one support and can be a challenge at times. She was very agitated and uncomfortable for this appointment and the staff made her feel safe and comfortable by holding her hand and rubbing her forehead. I want to submit cheers for Ashante “NicCole” Stintchomb. Nicole has played a major part in our Shared Living Department. She is well aware of her role, always goes above and beyond, and is very passionate about the work she does for our persons served. NicCole has been with Chimes for several years and has had several roles. In every role that she has had with Chimes, she has given 100% to the company. Steve Sibit and his team are instrumental in the events that happen at Chimes. From setting up to breaking down, they are always helpful and go the extra mile to make sure the event is a success. – Theresa Peddicord
Our Millsboro team lost two of our own participants within a two-week timeframe. Nicole Betts ensured that all team members were informed in a proper setting. When delivering the message to the participants we serve, Nicole was compassionate ,caring and assured them of her support. When asked if they could attend the services, she made every effort to ensure that all participants who wanted to attend could do so without hesitation. – Glenda Bowden

Patrick Vollay done a great job providing service to the individual he supports. Patrick has been instrumental in the growth and progress by being consistant and showing up daily to lead, guide and assist with life skills, activities and goals. The decrease in behaviors and progress in social skills are phenomenal. – Artisha Hall
William Steinhice is part of the maintenance team, he has always been a great spirit to encounter with visiting our residential home, his professionalism and mannerism speaks for itself. He is very communicative and observant of the details of servicing our home. And is always open to be a helping hand out of the ordinary, it is such a pleasure to have wonderful people like Mr. Will to have around and represent strongly the definition of CHEER. Eriona Presnar is an employee who always is ready to assist in any shape or form that is allowed. She is very respectful and shows a great interest in helping chimes grow in VA. I am submitting my cheer for Emma Korn of the Fairfax, VA Day Program. Emma has spent numerous hours actively working one on one with our client RG. During this time Emma has shown patience under stress and provided proper care during her client’s most challenging days. Her hard work and dedication is noticed and appreciated. – James Whittaker
Since taking over the Learning and Development team the culture has been helpful, friendly, and willing to go above and beyond. These traits are recognized because L & D is a great leader, Teresa Modugno. Teresa takes time out of her day to help you with anything promptly. I love that Teresa has a teamwork mentality and a friendly demeanor and you can always count on her to get the job done. Glenda Bowden, her staff and participants invited me to share a day with them to start processing the grief connected to two sudden losses. I was struck by the warmth, compassionate and care that everyone felt for one another. The wonderful staff were doing their best to not only process their own personal feelings but also be there for the participants who were struggling to understand and communicate what they were going through. A big thank you to all the staff and participants that helped to support Developmental Disabilities Day in Annapolis on February 13! We were joined by over 800 individuals from the I/DD community to advocate for funding for the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration. Chimes met with 6 legislative offices and heard from many others as part of the event. Thank you to our school and residential staff for getting participants to Annapolis as well as Steve DaRe for attending. – Chelsey Ewers
I want to thank Mike Atkins for his collaboration and the helpful information he provided for the SouthAmerica’s Training, Certification, and Compliance Grant. His commitment and attention to detail have been instrumental in our efforts to submit this grant successfully. – Mary Dockrill
I would like to send a great big cheer out for Carlos Olivera!!! In working with the employees of Chimes DC I have met with a lot of challenges but one that isn’t a problem is how Carlos makes himself available to translate in order to communicate the cares and concerns of the employees. Carlos shows empathy and understanding when interacting with each circumstance whether it’s for a potential new hire or an employee inquiring about benefits. I wanted to acknowledge Jeffrey Carroll works as a casemanager, particularly the work he is doing with one of my clients. I have been encouraging a client we share to try the active adult senior center, Jeff took him to see it and now he wants to go. Karla Castro Sepulveda skillfully handled a client in crisis by calming them, prioritizing their needs, and providing immediate resources. Her professionalism, urgency, and clinical expertise ensured well managed support, resulting in immediate relief and fostering trust, reasurrance, and highlighting her commitment to our client’s well-being. – Keisha Rucker
Romika McKenny, her kind heart and bright spirit is welcomed and appreciated by all the individuals she serves and staff alike. She demonstrates compassion, commitment and support to all individuals. I recall one of the individuals crying and was very sad because they were transitioning out of her class; that spoke volumes of her character and the impact of her presence. Howard, Anitra Gibson, Oluwatosin Idowu for working as team to get the individuals clothes washed , our Washing Machine Motor went out so we have to get a new Washing Machine instead of leaving the clothes to pile up they decided to go over to another House Western Run and get the job done, Great Job Team! – Lisa Braggs

Across the country and around the world, April is celebrated as Autism Acceptance Month. Throughout our nearly 80-year history, Chimes has been proud to be a go-to resource for Autistic people and their families across Maryland and across the region. We are proud to support hundreds of people with Autism, helping them make every day a meaningful day! For this month’s message, Steve invited Leslie Thompson, our Division Director for Chimes Maryland to share some great perspective on important issues related to Autism and the resources Chimes offers.

Outdoor Adaptive Therapeutic Center at The Chimes School!
We are beyond thrilled to announce the grand opening of our Outdoor Adaptive Therapeutic Center at The Chimes School—a vibrant, welcoming space designed with every child and youth in mind! Every inch of this space was thoughtfully created so that youth of all abilities can engage, explore, and play together without barriers. Special thanks to the Maryland General Assembly for generously funding the first phase of this incredible project. Their support helped bring this dream to life and laid the foundation for a space where all youth can thrive.
ANCOR American Network of Community Options and Resources Connect 2025 Conference
The Chimes team is feeling inspired while attending the ANCOR American Network of Community Options and Resources Connect 2025 Conference in San Diego. It is exciting to be learning from and connecting with leaders in the I/DD space to chart a course for the future of this important industry and the people we support. We have enjoyed interacting with our friends at Kibu, who we are partnering with to implement their game-changing technology platform that is transforming our day program offerings and data tracking at Chimes.
Advisory Council Meetings
It was a busy week for Chimes’ Advisory Councils with visits with policymakers and meetings throughout several states where we provide supports and services. We are grateful for the perspective and dedication our amazing Advisory Council members bring to their important roles with Chimes!
Advocacy in Action
The team traveled to Annapolis to meet with members of the Maryland Legislature to discuss the proposed cuts to Developmental Disabilities services in Maryland’s budget. Our leadership, staff and persons supported worked with legislators to help them understand the real and frightening impact these proposed cuts could have on Maryland’s most vulnerable citizens.
